Episode 100 - listen here!

We're celebrating our 100th episode in the only way we know how, talking about plants! Thank you for all the support over the years, we're so proud of what The Grow Guide has become and ready to bring you more great content in 2021. We kick off today's episode with a walk down memory lane, remembering some of our fav moments (episodes discussed linked below). Maggie and Dave then share their fav things before getting into a review of Niki Jabbour's newest book, Growing Under Cover; Techniques for a more productive, weather-resistant, pest-free vegetable gardenIn the second half of the show, listeners Katie, Xander and Vanessa join the pod, sharing about their unique grow zones, upcoming gardening plans, and some of their own gardening advice. Cheers to another 100 episodes!

Meet Katie:

Katie is gardening in a Zone 0 (!!) in Yellowknife, NW Territories Canada. She tells us about the quick but vigorous grow season she has up North and how she uses her greenhouse for edibles like peppers and squash. Plus we hear about her chicken keeping!

Meet Xander:

Xander is based in Brooklyn, New York where he’s closely involved with two inspiring community compost operations, one of them being @redhookcompost which is the largest fossil fuel free compost site in the USA. Xander joins our 100th episode and shares some easy, actionable tips for backyard composters (moisture, moisture, moisture!).

Meet Vanessa:

Vanessa gardens in rural Alberta where she has multiple edible garden spaces around her property. It was Vanessa’s love for processing and preserving locally grown food that lead her to think “I should be growing this myself!” Now, she gardens with the intent of feeding her family through much of the year. And this year, Vanessa is trying her hand at growing sweet potatoes (Dave has some helpful tips!).
